The Bachelor of Applied Science Applied Management - Human Resource program prepares students to enter the rapidly changing field of business management with a special focus on Human Resource competencies. Graduates will be prepared to lead organizational efforts in today’s world and create progressive best workplaces to harness the potential of their human talent using their expertise to assist with the attraction, engagement/productivity, and retention of talent.
Bachelor of Applied Science Applied Management - Human Resource graduates will:

Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any additional coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

Prerequisites
To be considered for admission to the BAS in Applied Management - Human Resource program, students must meet the following requirements:
- An earned associate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Minimum cumulative GPA across all college coursework of 2.0
- Completion of all General Education prerequisite courses listed below with a minimum 2.0 GPA in each course
General Education Prerequisites - 30 credits
Math and English requirements must be completed prior to Quarter 1, the remaining requirements can be taken after the student enters the program and must be completed prior to graduation. Entering the program without these courses completed will result in additional time for degree completion.
- 5 credits of college-level Math (with intermediate algebra as a prerequisite) or higher
- 5 credits of college-level English (ENGL& 101 or equivalent) course
- 5 credits of college-level Humanities course
- 5 credits of college-level Social Science course
- 5 credits of college-level Lab Science course
- 5 credits of any college-level General Education course
Technical Prerequisites - 47 credits
While recommended as prerequisites, these requirements can be taken after the student enters the program. Entering the program without these courses completed will result in additional time for degree completion.
ACCT& 201 and HRM 210 must be completed by the end of Quarter 1 and the remaining courses must be completed prior to graduation.
Course Planning
- HRM 210 is recommended to be taken before or during Quarter 1, but is offered Fall, Winter, and Spring.
- All HRM courses in quarters 1-5 need to be taken prior to HRM 490 and HRM 495.
Program Requirements - With Human Resource Management AAS-T from Fall 23 or later or non-LWTECH Human Resource Management AAS-T
This sequence is for students who have an LWTech Human Resource Management AAS-T from Fall 2023 or later or a non-LWTECH Human Resource Management AAS-T degree.
Quarter One (Fall) - HRM 345 Learning, Development, and Performance Management 5 credits
- HRM 465 Organizational Effectiveness, Development, and Change Management 5 credits
- ENGL& 235 Technical Writing 5 credits (or ENGL& 102 English Composition II )
Quarter Two (Winter) - HRM 370 Global HR, Mergers, and Acquisitions 5 credits
- PSYC& 200 Lifespan Psychology 5 credits (or any college-level General Education course)
- ACCT 301 Managerial Accounting 5 credits
Quarter Three (Spring) - HRM 435 Total Compensation 5 credits
- HRM 340 Employee and Labor Relations and Risk Management 5 credits
- ECON& 202 Macro Economics 5 credits (or any Social Science course)
Quarter Four (Fall) - BUS 310 Marketing Management 5 credits
- HRM 485 Strategic HR Management, Organizational Behavior, & Organizational Strategy 5 credits
- HRM 204 NHRMA Annual Conference and Tradeshow I 4-5 credits (or Technical Elective course, view list of courses)
Quarter Five (Winter) - HRM 425 Strategic Workforce Planning and Talent Management 5 credits
- CMST 280 Intercultural Communication 5 credits (or any Humanities course)
- HRM 201 Human Resource Management Internship I 3-5 credits (or Technical Elective course, view list of courses)
Quarter Six (Spring) - HRM 490 Leadership, HR Career Planning, and Capstone 5 credits
- HRM 495 BAS SHRM Certification Study Preparation 5 credits
- HRM 390 Successful People Management Principles and Inspiring Creativity 5 credits

- any course from the following: BUS&/BUS, ACCT&/ACCT, BTE, ECON&/ECON, PSYC&/PSYC, CMST&/CMST, or TLM
- MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics
- ENGL& 102 English Composition II
- ENGL& 235 Technical Writing
- PHIL 305 Professional Ethics

Upper Division Electives List for students with an HRM AAS-T prior to Fall 2023 only.
Select 35 credits of 300 or 400-level courses for a total of 60 credits of upper-level coursework. The following are suggested:
Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101 with the DSJ attribute meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).
Note: Not all sections of a course meet the DSJ requirement. Students should review the class information to ensure the class section includes “course attributes: meets diversity requirement.”

Students who have taken a DSJ class in a previous certificate or degree, do not have to take another DSJ class.
Total Program Credits: 180
Total credits includes the 90 credits listed above and a minimum of 90 credits completed at the associate degree level.
