MACH 205 Multi-Axis Programming

5 credits
Students will be introduced to multi-axis processes including 4th axis milling, axial and radial live tooling, and 5 axis programming. These part-program files can then be output as functional CNC G-code programs. Students will virtually verify toolpaths before running programs on the machine.

Prerequisites: MACH 107 MACH 109 MACH 117 MACH 119 MACH 137 MACH 139 MACH 151 MACH 153 , and MACH 155  or instructor permission based on work experience

Corequisites: MACH 207  and MACH 209

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Create, modify, and manage more complex 2D wireframes from part drawings
  • Create, modify, and manage more complex 3D solid model geometry from part drawings
  • Calculate appropriate multi-axis speeds and feeds
  • Create, modify, and manage multi-axis Work Coordinates Systems (WCS)
  • Manage Multi-axis Construction Planes and Graphics Views
  • Organize multiple machining operations and their various toolpaths
  • Create 3D toolpaths
  • Calculate appropriate cutting depth vs radial engagement
  • Verify toolpaths to check for errors and crashes
  • Generate and edit G-Code programs for use on various CNC machines
