MACH 207 Multi-Axis Setup

5 credits
Students will be introduced to multi-axis setup including 4th-axis milling, axial and radial live tooling, and 5 axis setup. Students will set tools and offsets using built in probing, verify all toolpaths before cutting, and safely run multi-axis parts in short production runs.

Prerequisites: MACH 107  or MACH 117  or MACH 137  and at least MACH 151  or instructor permission based on work experience 

Corequisites: MACH 153  or MACH 155  or MACH 205  

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Set and check X and Z offsets for each tool
  • Set and check fixture offsets
  • Set and check fixture offsets in various ways
  • Set and check tool length offsets from various references
  • Check setups using indicators and other inspection methods
  • Demonstrate proper ‘safe approach’ of a tool during a dry run
  • Demonstrate control and understanding of various CNC machines
  • Manage CNC alert codes and messages
  • Upload and manage G Code programs into CNC machines
  • Determine appropriate depth of cut vs radial engagement cutting amounts
