MACH 107 Production and Inspection5 credits Students will gain experience making parts in a CNC machine shop environment. Students will run milled and turned parts, check for precise dimensional accuracy, troubleshoot error codes, monitor coolant levels, adjust cutter compensation, and set tool length offsets.
Prerequisites: ABED 046 (or placement into ENGL 093 or higher) and MATH 087 (or placement into MATH 098 or higher)
Corequisites: MACH 109
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Demonstrate proper use of job planning sheets to verify setup and run a program
- Inspect and maintain dimensions within print tolerances during production runs
- Demonstrate understanding of statistical process control (SPC)
- Complete operator tie-in sheets
- Inspect a first article and complete proper documentation
- Demonstrate ability to plan for production
- Setup and maintain an organized workspace
- Monitor coolant levels and quality
- Troubleshoot machine error codes
- Adjust and verify cutter compensation on machine to adjust size of machined parts
- Set and check tool length offsets (TLO) on CNC machine
- Observe, identify and demonstrate proper lockout/tagout procedures
- Identify and interpret safety data sheets
