Business Communication, Certificate of Completion

The Business Communication Certificate is designed to equip students with business communication skills needed in a variety of professional settings. This program combines business courses with communication-focused coursework to provide a professional development experience that prepares graduates with communication and business skills needed in the modern workplace. Students will connect the communication skills they learn in this program to their specific employment and long-term career goals.

The certificate equips students with corresponding experience for increased responsibility in business management jobs such as a business manager, operations manager, project manager, team leader or supervisor, department head, regional manager, general/operations manager, and small business owner.

To be eligible to enroll in upper-division courses, a student (including non-matriculating students enrolled in prerequisite or co-requisite courses leading to upper-division coursework) must meet “Junior standing” based on earned credits or past degree awards. “Junior standing” is defined as a student who has completed an associate degree or higher, or 90+ college-level credits.

Business Communication certificate graduates will:

  • be prepared for management and leadership roles in business
  • demonstrate communication skills essential for success in a professional setting
  • analyze group dynamics and develop strategies for effectively managing teams
  • evaluate diverse leadership styles and management theories in the context of organizational and team dynamics
  • analyze decision-making, problem-solving strategies, leadership styles, and conflict management techniques as they apply to the workplace environment
  • apply a range of listening skills and developing an understanding of nonverbal communication strategies
  • demonstrate cultural humility in navigating and supporting individuals’ and organizations’ cultures
