ECED 400 Enriching Math, Science, Literacy and Technology Curriculum

5 credits
In this course, students will design, implement, and evaluate enriching learning experiences involving math, science, literacy, engineering, and technology. Students will also utilize inquiry-based approaches to promote children’s investigation, discovery, problem-solving, and creation. The course will also include documenting children’s learning and collaboration with families, staff, and community to enhance learning experiences.  

Prerequisites: ECED 330  and ECED 340  

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Research and implement developmentally appropriate methods for extending intentional math, science, literacy, and technology skills into all areas of children’s learning and routines
  • Engage children in using active explorations and scientific methods to learn more about their world and natural phenomenon
  • Facilitate inquiry-based experiences to promote children’s investigation, discovery, engineering, and creation
  • Analyze observations, incorporate children’s interests, document learning, and collaborate with families, staff, and community to enhance learning experiences
  • Design culturally responsive language and literacy environments that support children’s interests in learning activities, provide expressive language opportunities and make connections with print
  • Demonstrate “math talk” and incorporate math as a tool in children’s play and activities to enhance the exploration of concepts related to geometry, number sense, measurements, and number operations
