ECED 400 Enriching Math, Science, Literacy and Technology Curriculum5 credits In this course, students will design, implement, and evaluate enriching learning experiences involving math, science, literacy, engineering, and technology. Students will also utilize inquiry-based approaches to promote children’s investigation, discovery, problem-solving, and creation. The course will also include documenting children’s learning and collaboration with families, staff, and community to enhance learning experiences.
Prerequisites: ECED 330 and ECED 340
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Research and implement developmentally appropriate methods for extending intentional math, science, literacy, and technology skills into all areas of children’s learning and routines
- Engage children in using active explorations and scientific methods to learn more about their world and natural phenomenon
- Facilitate inquiry-based experiences to promote children’s investigation, discovery, engineering, and creation
- Analyze observations, incorporate children’s interests, document learning, and collaborate with families, staff, and community to enhance learning experiences
- Design culturally responsive language and literacy environments that support children’s interests in learning activities, provide expressive language opportunities and make connections with print
- Demonstrate “math talk” and incorporate math as a tool in children’s play and activities to enhance the exploration of concepts related to geometry, number sense, measurements, and number operations
