ELCT 107 Avionics Wiring and Fiber Optics Integration3 credits This course delves into the seamless integration of avionics wiring and fiber optics within aviation systems. It equips students with the hands-on skills needed to excel in the dynamic field of aircraft communication and data transmission technologies. Through a balanced blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, students will gain proficiency in installation, maintenance, and evaluation of these critical components.
Prerequisites: ABED 40 or AHSE 56 (or placement into MATH 87 or AHSE 66 or higher) and ABED 46 (or placement into ENGL 93 or higher)
Corequisites: ELCT 115 , ELCT 126 , and ELCT 106
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Describe criteria for acceptable soldered terminations and apply effective crimping techniques
- Cite and execute processes for coaxial cable preparation, while evaluating cable requirements
- Demonstrate hands-on proficiency in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optics and broadband systems in aviation environments
- Demonstrate wire-harness preparation and assembly techniques, ensuring precise routing, clamping, and termination for seamless integration of wires, coax, and bundles into aircraft electrical systems
- Identify unshielded twisted pair and fiber optic cabling components, explaining their functions
- Demonstrate knowledge of cable construction and bend radius considerations for signal integrity
- Install wire bundles based on pressurized and unpressurized bundle locations within aircraft
