MEDA 121 Admin: Front Office/EMR5 credits This course introduces students to basic medical office procedures, including patient scheduling, written and oral communication, telecommunications, medical records management, electronic medical records, and daily financial practices
Prerequisites: BIOL& 175 (or BIOL& 241 and BIOL& 242 ), ENGL 99 (or placement into ENGL& 101 or higher), and MATH 87 or AHSE 66 (or placement into MATH 98 or higher)
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical office procedures
- Demonstrate safety practices for the medical office
- Apply knowledge by completing practical applications
- Perform medical office procedures
- Apply safety practices for the medical office
- Apply scheduling and telephone techniques
- Maintain medical records and patient confidentiality
- Define terminology used in the medical office
- Explain legal and ethical issues related to medical computer applications
- Perform basic administrative tasks and clinical documentation using medical computer programs
- Maintain an inventory of supplies
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical office opening and closing procedures
- Perform duties required for telehealth appointments
Program Outcomes This course teaches to the following program outcomes:
- be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field
- be prepared to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties.
- meet CAAHEP Standards in the areas of cognitive and psychomotor skills
- be prepared to pass the CMA (AAMA) exam
