ENVS& 101 Introduction to Environmental Science5 credits Discusses the effects of human activity on changing ecosystems, energy flow, sustainability, pollution, and natural cycles. Content also deals with water and wastewater treatments, air pollution, and solid waste treatment and disposal technologies. Includes laboratory.
This course meets the Natural Science with lab general education distribution requirement.
Prerequisites: ENGL 93 (or placement into ENGL 99 or higher) and MATH 87 or AHSE 66 (or placement into MATH 98 or higher)
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Discuss the natural cycles of an ecosystem
- Explain the natural flow of energy and associated ecosystems and their sustainability
- Discuss changes to ecosystems due to human activity
- Identify common constituents of surface water, groundwater, and domestic wastewater
- Apply concepts and principles of sustainable development as it relates to wastewater treatment, dissolved oxygen, and landfill space
- Identify environmental issues that relate to different cultures and countries
