ELL 42 Read Discuss Write3 credits In this course, students continue developing basic grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, organization, and other aspects of the writing process integrated with reading and critical thinking skills.
Prerequisites: ELL 16 or INTL 16 or placement into ELL 30 or ELL 40 (or INTL 30 or INTL 40 )
Corequisites: ELL 30 or ELL 40 or ELL 50 (or INTL 30 or INTL 40 or INTL 50 )
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students needing to complete writing outcomes for ELL 30 will be able to:
- Make basic edits of grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation
- Use appropriate subject-verb agreement
- Organize and write 4-5 sentence paragraphs with proper structure using various verb tenses
Upon successful completion of this course, students needing to complete outcomes for ELL 40 will be able to:
- Make edits of basic grammar, spelling, and sentence structure
- Use appropriate punctuation and capitalization
- Organize and write 2-paragraph texts with proper format and structure using various verb tenses
- Write various types of paragraphs, such as descriptive, compare/contrast, problem/solution, informational, or cause/effect
