The Human Resource Management AAS-T degree prepares students to gain a solid and extensive background in human resources. General education courses, economics courses, and business courses will assist students to meet the growing need for human resource (HR) professionals and have the ability to build on their education.
The Human Resource Management program is designed for the working professional wishing to enter the human resource field, professionals wanting to enhance their HR knowledge, HR professionals wishing to advance in their field, certified HR professionals seeking re-certification hours, and managers wanting to get a better understanding of HR.
Human Resource Management AAS-T degree graduates will:
- be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field
- be prepared to successfully sit for an HR certification exam
- explain HR’s role in developing human capital and its impact on an organization’s success
- explain how HR can impact ethics and inclusion in organizations
- develop a fundamental compensation plan for an organization
- develop an HR topic learning and development session
- analyze the implications of employment case laws
- create strategies for opening new operations globally
- explain how organizational strategies and culture contribute and are linked to HR management
- define benefits and identify strategic benefit design considerations
- explain successful strategies for developing a diverse talent pool of qualified candidates
- describe the nature of employee relations and labor relations and HR’s role in those relationships
- explain the importance of strategically managing risk and safety
- demonstrate how to leverage technology in today’s environment to support HR activities
- use measurement strategies that link HR practices to achieving bottom-line business results
- explain how successful practices in organizational effectiveness, development, and change management lead to business success
- explain the impact HR has on talent in an organization
- apply an understanding of the process of unionization
- apply concepts to demonstrate HR value by aligning the vision, mission, strategy, and goals of the organization with the delivery of the HR function
- identify the need for a change management process and approaches to support the organization in implementing change
- demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork, communication, intercultural appreciation, and information literacy skills
- meet Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
