Program Admission Dates: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer
Program Mission: The Auto Body Technician AAS degree prepares students with the skills necessary to compete in the auto body industry. The program consists of six quarters of collision auto body repair and auto paint training. Students will spend their first quarter of training in a transportation core curriculum. The laboratory area is designed to simulate an actual industry repair environment and includes a state-of-the-art painting booth with the latest in high-tech equipment.
The Auto Body Technician AAS degree graduates will:
- be prepared for employment in the auto collision and restoration industry
- demonstrate skill in refinishing, structural repair, non-structural repair, estimating, and shop management
- dismantle collision related components, replace damaged parts, and perform metal straightening, welding, plastic repair, painting, estimating, and detailing of vehicles
- demonstrate advanced collision repair and paint techniques for production purposes
- demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork, communication, intercultural appreciation, and information literacy skills
- meet Social Science, Humanities, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

Program Requirements
Annual Course Sequence
The first four quarters listed below are offered on a four quarter rotation and are not sequential; a student may start any quarter. The final quarter is taken when all other courses have been completed.
Fall Quarter - ABT 215 Structural Repair 14 credits
- ART 102 Design I 5 credits (or any course with CMST&, ART/ART&, ASL&, SPAN&, HUM, ENGL&, or HIST& as the prefix)
Winter Quarter - ABT 225 Non-Structural Repair 14 credits
- PSYC& 100 General Psychology 5 credits (or any course with BUS&, ECON&, PSYC&, SOC&, CJ&, or POLS& as the prefix)
Spring Quarter - ABT 235 Estimating and Shop Management 14 credits
- MATH& 107 Math in Society 5 credits (or any college-level course with MATH/MATH& as the prefix)
Summer Quarter - ABT 245 Refinishing 14 credits
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits
Final Quarter - ABT 255 Advanced Auto Body 14 credits
General Education Requirements - 20 Credits
