The Inclusive Education certificate prepares students to work with diverse learners as part of a special education team in public school settings. The program includes an overview of diversity topics and societal influences on education. Students will learn about special education laws, students rights, language and literacy instructional approaches for multilingual learners, appropriate supports, adaptations, and modifications to meet the needs of students while creating inclusive learning environments.
Inclusive Education certificate graduates will:
- define and apply key terms and concepts of diversity and social justice to educational settings
- identify how systemic power, privilege, and oppression impacts education systems and the individuals within those systems
- demonstrate respectful, ethical, and professional approaches to navigate complex issues in education and to promote equitable outcomes for all
- apply developmental and learning theory-based instructional and behavioral support methods while working with culturally and linguistically diverse students, and students with disabilities
- be prepared to work effectively with a wide range of learners as part of a school team (e.g., within special education, or multi-lingual
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any additional coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
