180 CREDITS
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Design prepares students to lead and collaborate with teams of creative and technical professionals. Graduates will be able to produce quality design solutions using technology effectively. They will be prepared to manage teams and projects, and create competitive advantages for business enterprises.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Design graduates will:
- demonstrate ability to actively participate in and lead a team through a creative process in an organizational setting
- possess a broad theoretical knowledge of a range of design disciplines
- develop a personal design aesthetic that informs and enriches a student’s future contributions to the field
- demonstrate mastery in some and familiarity with many tools, techniques, and technologies associated with design and its applications in the workplace
- speak, write and present effectively, leveraging technology to enhance communications
- identify important business processes, economic factors, and considerations in operating or managing a business or team within a business
- employ creative and critical thinking to enhance problem solving
- employ sound principles of organizational behavior
- exhibit analytical thought, informed judgment, ethical behavior, and an appreciation for diversity
- demonstrate communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork skills
- meet Humanities , Natural Science , Quantitative Reasoning , Social Science , and Written Communication general education distribution area outcomes
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any additional coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

Prerequisites
Completion of requirements for an earned Applied Associate Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution with a minimum of 60 quarter credits in an appropriate technical area of concentration or a Design related discipline.
Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA across all college course work in the associate degree.
Completion of 30 credits of General Education courses from the list below with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in each class.
- ENGL& 101 English Composition I 5 credits (or equivalent)
- College-level Social Science course 5 credits
- College-level Humanities courses 10 credits (drawing, art history, and design related courses preferred)
- MATH& 107 Math in Society 5 credits (or any college-level math course with pre-algebra as a prerequisite)
- College-level Lab Science course 5 credits

Technical Electives - 30 Credits
Students may choose upper division (300- or 400-level) elective courses from the APDZ and ART areas.
General Education Requirements - 20 Credits
The following courses from the Program Requirements listed above meet the General Education requirements for this program.
Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101 with the DSJ attribute meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).
Note: Not all sections of a course meet the DSJ requirement. Students should review the class information to ensure the class section includes “course attributes: meets diversity requirement.”

Students who have taken a DSJ class in a previous certificate or degree, do not have to take another DSJ class.
Total Program Credits: 180
Total credits includes the 90 credits listed above and a minimum of 90 credits completed at the associate degree level.
