ABED 071 Communication Skills Culinary Applications I2 credits This course is exclusively for students who qualify for and enroll in the first quarter of the I-BEST Culinary Arts Certificate of Completion. It addresses industry specific vocabulary and language skills covered in the first term technical courses (CART 110 and 115).
Prerequisites: Successful completion of EASL 050 or placement by assessment
Corequisites: CART 110 and CART 115
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Pronounce, spell, and use correctly specialized vocabulary relating to the language of the culinary arts and food services industries
- Make edits of grammar, spelling, and sentence structure using Microsoft Word
- Write narrative/informative paragraphs employing vocabulary related to culinary equipment, kitchen sanitation, recipe development, and culinary workplace policies
- Give and follow oral instructions for recipes, basic cooking techniques, safe food handling, and common kitchen interactions
- Find and utilize verified online resources to report on and research topics important to the culinary arts field
