NURS 114 Health Assessment Theory1-3 credits This course is designed to provide nursing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform comprehensive health assessments on patients across the adult lifespan. It emphasizes the physical and psychosocial aspects of assessment. Students will learn to use clinical judgment to interpret findings. The course highlights the importance of safe practice, cultural competence, effective communication, and the development of a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship
Prerequisites: BIOL& 241 , BIOL& 242 , BIOL& 260 , CHEM& 121 , any CMST& course, ENGL& 101 , MATH& 146 , NUTR& 101 , and PSYC& 200
Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify the principles and techniques of safe & holistic health assessment across the adult lifespan
- Identify the components of comprehensive health histories and physical examinations across the adult lifespan
- Utilize the clinical judgment model to analyze and interpret assessment data to identify normal and abnormal findings across the adult lifespan
- Understand the principles of cultural competence and effective communication when performing health assessments and interacting with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
