DHYG 422 Advanced Dental Hygiene Theory VI3 credits The sixth in a series of seven linked courses to build upon fundamental concepts of dental hygiene and incorporate complex dental hygiene theory, science, and practice management for patients with a higher degree of difficulty and periodontal involvement.
Prerequisites: All Quarter 6 DHYG BAS courses
Corequisites: All Quarter 7 DHYG BAS courses
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze dental hygiene theory and application of complex treatment outcomes
- Prepare for NBDHE
- Prepare for the CDCA-WREB-CITA local anesthetic exam
- Describe the application of school-based sealant and fluoride varnish training
- Articulate the purpose of testing for pulp vitality
- Describe oral irrigation techniques and its need as an adjunctive therapy to toothbrushing and flossing regimen
- Prepare for Dental Hygiene License Application
- Provide mentoring to Junior Dental Hygiene students in a clinical setting on patient care techniques
- Participate in WDHA Annual Symposium
- Develop competency in navigating private practice day by encompassing organizational understanding, effective communication, practice management skills, and adherence to professional standards
Program Outcomes This course teaches to the following program outcome:
- be prepared to successfully complete all licensing exams required to practice in Washington State and obtain an entry-level position as a dental hygienist
