PTA 235 Topics in Physical Therapy III2 credits This course covers topics and skills of PTA career development, performance improvement & quality assurance, and ethical behavior in the physical therapy workplace.
Prerequisites: All Quarter 4 PTA AAS courses
Corequisites: All Quarter 5 PTA AAS courses
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify resources both within and outside the clinic that help to increase one’s knowledge and skills as a physical therapist assistant
- Identify opportunities for lifelong learning as a PTA
- Assess the relevance and value of opportunities for lifelong learning as a PTA
- Identify the PTA licensure-related requirements for continuing education
- Discuss opportunities for career development as a PTA
- Design a self-directed plan for career development and lifelong learning
- Identify available resources for PTA board examination preparation
- Design a self-directed plan for board examination preparation
- Identify performance improvement and quality assurance activities in the workplace
- Contribute to a physical therapy workplace team through participation in performance improvement and quality assurance activities
- Describe key components of ethical behavior
- Analyze and discuss ethical situations encountered in physical therapy
- Apply an ethical decision-making framework to different types of ethical scenarios in the physical therapy workplace
- Utilize relevant American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) documents to analyze and discuss of ethical situations in physical therapy
- Identify strategies for continued development of ethical behaviors as a PTA
- Describe the processes of professional organizations in dealing with ethical complaints in the field of physical therapy
