NURS 244 Leadership and Nursing Practice Preceptorship

5 credits
This course is an intensive clinical preceptorship in a nursing practice setting. The focus is on the student’s ability to function independently, and as an interdisciplinary team member, in the role of entry-to-practice nurse implementing holistic, safe, ethical, inclusive, individualized, equitable, effective, and financially responsible care that promotes positive client outcomes. 

Prerequisites: All NURS courses in previous quarter

Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate professional behavior and accountability consistent with ANA code of ethics and program and facility responsibilities of nursing
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills working with clients, family members, interdisciplinary team members, and faculty through verbal, written, and electronic mediums
  • Apply clinical judgment and effective prioritization to safely manage a client’s changing health care status and promote positive client outcomes 
  • Demonstrate effective use of information systems & technology to support and document the delivery of quality care provided
  • Demonstrate proficiency in implementing the role of the nurse providing holistic care for clients with regard to timely, safe, ethical, inclusive, individualized, equitable, effective, and financially responsible care within the RN scope of practice
  • Develop client teaching strategies that emphasize cultural awareness, holistic health promotion, and client- centered outcomes
