NURS 241 Medical Surgical Nursing III5 credits This course provides advanced principles of medical-surgical nursing, focusing on the holistic care of adult patients experiencing various medical conditions. Students will develop a strong foundation in critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice through the study of concept-based nursing care, preparing students to apply those concepts in clinical settings.
Prerequisites: All NURS courses in previous quarter
Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of disorders and disease processes across the adult lifespan at the Q5 student nurse level
- Utilize the nursing process and clinical judgment model as a framework for safe and holistic care of diverse patient populations across the adult lifespan at the Q5 student nurse level
- Discuss management of care, patient goals, and patient education considerations for disorders and disease processes across the adult lifespan at the Q5 student nurse level
- Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment skills to analyze and interpret case study scenarios, demonstrating the ability to prioritize interventions, anticipate complications, provide evidenced-based care, and adapt nursing care plans based on patient responses at the Q5 student nurse level
College-Wide Learning Outcomes This course teaches to the college-wide learning outcome of Critical Thinking, the ability to evaluate information, draw inferences, arrive at conclusions, and create solutions based on objective analysis of the evidence.
