NURS 226 Nursing of Children Practicum2-3 credits This clinical course offers nursing students hands-on experience in the care of infants, children, and adolescents in a healthcare setting and simulated clinical experiences. Emphasizing the application of theoretical knowledge to practice, students will develop essential clinical skills, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and professional behaviors necessary for pediatric nursing. The course integrates family-centered care, developmental considerations, and evidence-based interventions to promote the health and well-being of pediatric patients.
Prerequisites: All NURS courses in previous quarter
Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate professional behavior and accountability consistent with ANA code of ethics and program and facility responsibilities of nursing
- Demonstrate effective communication skills working with clients, family members, interdisciplinary team members, and faculty through verbal, written, and electronic mediums
- Identify and address ethical and safety issues in pediatric nursing practice
- Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment skills, demonstrating the ability to prioritize interventions, anticipate complications, provide evidenced-based care, and adapt nursing care plans based on pediatric client responses
- Demonstrate proficiency in implementing the role of the nurse providing holistic care for pediatric clients with regard to timely, safe, ethical, inclusive, individualized, equitable, effective, and financially responsible care within the student nurse scope of practice
- Develop client goals and client/family education considerations related to disease processes, health promotion, and disease prevention tailored to pediatric populations
- Demonstrate effective use of information systems & technology to support and document the delivery of quality care provided to pediatric clients
