NURS 131 Medical Surgical Nursing II

4-5 credits

This course provides intermediate principles of medical-surgical nursing, focusing on the holistic care of adult patients experiencing various medical conditions. Students will develop a strong foundation in critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice through the study of concept-based nursing care, preparing students to apply those concepts in clinical settings, and build upon those concepts in NURS 241.

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Describe the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of disorders and disease processes across the adult lifespan at the Q3 student nurse level
Utilize the nursing process and clinical judgment model as a framework for safe and holistic care of diverse patient populations across the adult lifespan at the Q3 student nurse level
Discuss management of care, patient goals, and patient education considerations for disorders and disease processes across the adult lifespan at the Q3 student nurse level
Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment skills to analyze and interpret case study scenarios, demonstrating the ability to prioritize interventions, anticipate complications, provide evidenced-based care, and adapt nursing care plans based on patient responses at the Q3 student nurse level
