NURS 128 Skills Lab II2 credits This course provides nursing students with a comprehensive foundation in essential nursing skills, emphasizing the integration of evidence-based practice, safety, communication, functional ability, caring interventions, and information technology concepts across the adult lifespan. Students will develop the competencies necessary to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care to diverse populations.
Prerequisites: All NURS courses in previous quarter
Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective communication skills through verbal, written, and electronic mediums
- Demonstrate professional behavior and accountability consistent with ANA code of ethics and program and responsibilities of nursing
- Demonstrate competence in safety measures for patient encounters
- Demonstrate competence in performing hand hygiene and obtaining vital signs
- Demonstrate competence in Medication math
- Demonstrate competence in ADDD use and medication administration
- Demonstrate competence in NG placement, gastric medications, and enteral feeds
- Demonstrate competence in IV assessment, IV fluids, and IV medication administration
- Demonstrate competence in oxygen delivery & performing sterile procedures
- Demonstrate the skills of proper tracheostomy suction and care
- Demonstrate effective use of information systems & technology to support and document the delivery of quality care
