NURS 113 Health Assessment Lab1-2 credits This course introduces the concepts of health assessments and health promotion for adult populations. It covers holistic dimensions of client assessments, including techniques for communication, history- taking, physical examinations, and documenting assessment findings. The course also emphasizes critical thinking, diagnostic skills, and considerations for diverse adult populations, building upon previously acquired knowledge and complementing corequisite courses.
Prerequisites: BIOL& 241 , BIOL& 242 , BIOL& 260 , CHEM& 121 , any CMST& course, ENGL& 101 , MATH& 146 , NUTR& 101 , and PSYC& 200
Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify objective and subjective data in nursing assessments
- Recognize expected and unexpected physical assessment findings within each body system
- Demonstrate safe and effective beginning-level comprehensive head-to-toe physical assessment using proper techniques
- Demonstrate systematic health assessment using evidence-based guidelines and data collection methods to gather and record patient data
- Demonstrate client privacy, confidentiality, and cultural humility throughout client-nurse interactions
- Use effective verbal and written communication with clients, families, and the interprofessional team
- Examine assessment findings to identify potential and actual health issues the client may be experiencing
