NURS 112 Nursing Foundations Practicum

This course builds on previously acquired knowledge and skills and encourages students to observe the nursing process, practice communication techniques, demonstrate basic nursing skills and begin developing critical thinking skills. 

Prerequisites: BIOL& 241 BIOL& 242 BIOL& 260 CHEM& 121 , any CMST& course, ENGL& 101 MATH& 146 NUTR& 101 , and PSYC& 200  

Corequisites: All NURS courses within same quarter

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Use clinical judgment to provide safe, effective, and patient- centered, evidenced- based care across diverse populations within the long-term care and assisted living communities
  • Demonstrate beginning nursing skills using critical judgment during the process of collection, analysis and management of data and decision- making in the care of patients
  • Demonstrate competency in written, verbal and non-verbal communication in a variety of contexts with patients, colleagues, families, and others within the healthcare setting
  • Utilize behaviors that are reflective of professionalism, leadership and ethical practices within the scope of practice for student nurses
