GAME 148 Concept Art - Environments4 credits This course develops the skills and techniques necessary to conceptualize and create compelling and immersive environments for video games, illustration, films and animation. Students will develop a strong foundation in traditional drawing and digital art tools while utilizing photos, 3D models and AI for reference. Emphasis is placed on creating concept art that demonstrates skill in composition, perspective, lighting, and color theory and supports the narrative theme and setting of a given project relevant to contemporary industry quality and standards.
Prerequisites: ART 121 and GAME 122 or DSGN 122
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Create concepts and compositions of dynamic and immersive environments through sketching, drawing and digital painting
- Create and combine 2D and 3D elements to produce three-dimensional environments with architecturally accurate perspective
- Incorporate storytelling principles into environment design that support the narrative theme and requirements of a project
- Research and effectively and incorporate reference of real-world locations, architectural styles, and natural landscapes to inform world building
- Produce high-quality environment concept art portfolio pieces that demonstrate a range of skills and styles and prepare students for potential job opportunities in the entertainment and gaming industries
