GAME 105 Storyboard Development4 credits This course explores the creative and technical aspects of storyboarding and the basic principles of visual storytelling and cinematic language through assignment and exercises. The fundamentals include analyzing classic and contemporary cinema techniques and translating them into sequential images via hand drawn sketches and digital storyboard software. Emphasis is on clearly communicating a narrative, developing characters, and creating an overall story arc. Students will create a personal storyboard project demonstrating these skills. The goal is to learn to create professional level storyboards that communicate ideas and create effective visual stories for video games, cinema, web and print media and to enhance communication visually between employee and employer, graphic designer and client, and designer to designer.
Prerequisites: ART 121
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the skill of transferring an idea to a drawn visual image
- Demonstrate the skill of transferring a set of ideas into sequential visual images that convey a narrative in a timeline of events
- Demonstrate an understanding of staging and cinematic framing and camera moves
- Create visual narratives with emotional impact in scene and characters
- Create a video animatic
