FDM 273 Special Topics in Funeral Service3 credits This class is an overview of the changing roles social media and technology have played in relation to funeral service. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to, the relationship between technology and work, social groups and professional organizations, bereavement, changes to visitation, education, government regulations, commerce, continuous education, and the future.
Prerequisites: FDM 140 and FDM 141
Corequisites: FDM 148
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, student will be able to:
- Analyze how social media impacts social groups and the profession
- Explain the relationship between social media and technology
- Analyze the role of social media in business relations and commerce
- Apply multiple communication perspectives to make sense of social media adoption and use as it relates to bereavement and changes to visitation
- Create education and continuing education as it relates to social media in funeral service
- Evaluate the future of social media in the funeral profession
