ECED 360 Behavior and Social-Emotional Development4 credits This course will include an in-depth examination and analysis of the underlying influences on children’s behavior and social interactions. Students will facilitate social interactions and enhance connections with children and families with a culturally responsive approach. The course will also explore ways to support children’s emotional development, problem-solving skills, and self-regulation/executive functioning.
Prerequisites: ECED 300 and ECED 310
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Examine theories and current research related to the influences on children’s behavior and social and emotional development
- Investigate the underlying factors for challenging behaviors, analyze the influences on children’s identity development, and design multifaceted approaches for supporting children’s social interactions and emotional development
- Design and implement activities that facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution and increase self-regulation/executive functioning skills
- Demonstrate culturally responsive teaching by building connections and partnerships with children and families to promote social interactions and create inclusive classrooms
- Implement teaching strategies that support social and emotional skill development for diverse groups of children and enhance social connections and interactions
