ART 312 Scientific Illustration

5 credits
This course focuses on the studio practice and historical application of scientific and medical illustration. Analog and digital drawing media will be used to render detailed and observational illustrations of subject matter traditionally employed by scientific and medical publications.

Prerequisites: ART 302  

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Deduce the key elements required to visually communicate a narrative
  • Tabulate critical aspects required for illustrating science and medical topics
  • Experiment with multiple styles to communicate a common narrative topic
  • Illustrate sequential scientific or medical steps
  • Defend an illustrated concept to a subject matter expert
