DAS 201 Essentials of Dental Assisting II7 credits In this course of study, the student will build on the knowledge gained from DAS 101 Essentials of Dental Assisting I and DAS 105 Dental Radiography. Advanced and specialized dental procedures are introduced, as well as basic business administration procedures for the dental office. Students will learn about the needs of special populations. Principles and theories learned in lectures will be applied in simulated and live patient experiences during clinical labs.
Prerequisites: DAS 101 , DAS 102 , and DAS 105
Corequisites: DAS 202 and DAS 203
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Describe phone courtesy and proper handling of phone calls
- Explain guidelines for office policies and staff management issues
- Modify schedules, patient records, treatment and plans using computer programs for the dental office
- Demonstrate fabrication of various dental appliances
- Demonstrate fabrication of single and multi-unit provisional coverage
- Demonstrate the use of dental materials used in surgical specialties
- Discuss and perform the duties of a clinical assistant in a specialty practice and describe the skills and instruments used
- Identify accommodations and treatment modifications for medically, mentally, or physically compromised patients
- Identify accommodations for pediatric patients.
- Expose and process quality diagnostic radiographs
- Demonstrate proficiency in paralleling and bisecting techniques
- Identify anatomical landmarks, anomalies, and radiographic artifacts on radiographs
