FSE 405 Creating Meaningful Moments5 credits This course explores the various ways funeral practitioners can help families find meaning in a funeral service. The course will incorporate event planning, time management, and a broad knowledge of adapting to the needs of mourners in order to create distinct and meaningful services.
Prerequisites: FSE 315
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Discuss the importance and purpose of meaningful funeral ceremonies
- Evaluate the deritualization of the funeral
- Analyze the six reconciliation needs of mourning
- Distinguish how the authentic funeral connects to the six reconciliation needs of mourning
- Explain how the experience economy carries over to funerals
- Explain how engaging the senses contributes to a memorable experience
- Describe the caregiver’s role in creating meaningful funeral ceremonies
- Enact the qualities of an effective funeral facilitator, including event planning and time management
- Develop practical ideas for creating meaningful funerals
- List the Ten Freedoms for creating meaningful funerals
