MEDA 121 Admin: Front Office/EMR

5 credits
This course introduces students to basic medical office procedures, including patient scheduling, written and oral communication, telecommunications, medical records management, electronic medical records, and daily financial practices

Prerequisites: BIOL& 175  (or BIOL& 241  and BIOL& 242 ), ENGL 99  (or placement into ENGL& 101 or higher), and MATH 87  or AHSE 66  (or placement into MATH 98  or higher)

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical office procedures
  • Demonstrate safety practices for the medical office
  • Apply knowledge by completing practical applications
  • Perform medical office procedures
  • Apply safety practices for the medical office
  • Apply scheduling and telephone techniques
  • Maintain medical records and patient confidentiality
  • Define terminology used in the medical office
  • Explain legal and ethical issues related to medical computer applications
  • Perform basic administrative tasks and clinical documentation using medical computer programs
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical office opening and closing procedures
  • Perform duties required for telehealth appointments
