AHSE 52 HS+ US History3-8 credits This contextualized US history course prepares the student to meet the high school equivalency examination and satisfy the US History requirement for the Washington State High School Diploma.
Prerequisites: A minimum of 221 on the CASAS Reading Assessment and a writing sample
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Apply basic historical research skills, including the effective use of libraries, archives, and databases
- Describe the economic, political, and social changes that occurred during given time periods
- Analyze the impact of immigration on the social landscape of the United States
- Identify the causes and reasons for US involvement in conflicts and wars during select time periods and describe the impact felt at home and abroad (conflicts and wars covered: Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Cold War, Korean War, Vietnam War, and involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq)
- Evaluate how historical changes (such as the Great Awakening, the Gilded Age, the Civil Rights Movement, Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, the Cold War, U.S. Westward Expansion, the American Revolution, etc.) affected all aspects of American life
- Recognize the role of the United States as a leader in the modern world
