MEDA 220 MA Extern and Job Preparation

2 credits
Students complete requirements to enter externship, expand job-seeking skills, and develop knowledge of professional requirements to work as a certified medical assistant (MA-C) in Washington State. This course is required in the quarter prior to medical assisting externship.

Prerequisites: MEDA 125  and MEDA 139  

Corequisites: MEDA 212  

Course Outcomes
Upon succesful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Search for entry-level medical assisting positions through job boards and employer websites
  • Create a resume for entry-level medical assisting positions
  • Interview for medical assisting positions
  • Identify requirements to apply for the MA-C certificate in Washington State
  • Identify steps to apply for national medical assisting exams
  • Describe professional qualities required of a medical assistant
  • Explain duties within the legal scope of a medical assistant in Washington State
  • Complete documentation requirements for medical assistant externship
  • Apply for graduation
