The Medical Office Administration certificate equips students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for entry-level positions in medical office settings. Graduates will be prepared to work as front office assistants or provide general clerical support in healthcare environments. The program covers foundational topics such as medical office procedures, medical terminology, medical law, billing and insurance coding, and medical computer applications.

Medica Office Administration graduates will:

  • apply medical terminology accurately in both written and verbal communication across healthcare settings
  • interpret and follow healthcare laws, regulations, and ethical standards relevant to administrative operations
  • perform essential medical office functions, including appointment scheduling, patient intake, and records management
  • process medical billing and insurance claims using industry-standard coding and reimbursement systems
  • use healthcare software to manage electronic health records (EHR), billing workflows, and office communication
  • demonstrate professional communication, customer service skills, and workplace etiquette in diverse medical environments
  • contribute effectively in ambulatory care settings by performing administrative and basic clinical tasks within the scope of training

Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
