The Bachelor of Applied Science Information Technology: Computing and Software Development program prepares students to work as software developers or programmers in a team-based environment supporting large scale product deployments.
Bachelor of Applied Science Information Technology: Computing and Software Development graduates will:
- demonstrate competency in software engineering, software testing principles, and quality assurance techniques
- implement program management concepts
- identify, evaluate, and apply efficient algorithms and technologies required for developing software system
- demonstrate ability to understand and integrate contributions to the architecture design of a large software system
- be prepared to obtain an entry-level position at a software development company
- demonstrate communication, critical thinking, cultural humility, information literacy, and teamwork skills
- meet Humanities , Natural Science , Quantitative Reasoning , Social Science , and Written Communication general education distribution area outcomes
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any additional coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

Prerequisites - 30-31 Credits
Note: The prerequisites were changed on 11/21/25 effective immediately. Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA across all college course work. Completion of at least 30-31 credits from the list below with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in each class. General Education Requirements - 50-51 Credits
The following courses from the Program Requirements and Pre-Requisites listed meet the General Education requirements for this program. Core Courses - 65 Credits
Courses from Prior College Coursework - 64-65 Credits
Credits required from prior associate’s degree or college coursework to reach 180 total credits. - Any 100-level or above courses not already taken within the BAS IT: Computing and Software Development requirements
- General education pre-requisites do not count towards these credits
Required Course Sequence
Note: The required course sequence was changed on 11/21/25 effective immediately. Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101 with the DSJ attribute meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement). Note: Not all sections of a course meet the DSJ requirement. Students should review the class information to ensure the class section includes “course attributes: meets diversity requirement.” Visit the DSJ requirement webpage to view the current list of general education and technical courses that meet the requirement. Students who have taken a DSJ class in a previous certificate or degree, do not have to take another DSJ class. Total Program Credits: 180
Total credits includes the 90 credits listed above and a minimum of 90 credits completed at the associate degree level. |
