The Human Resource Management AAS-T degree prepares students to gain a solid and extensive background in human resources. General education courses, economics courses, and business courses will assist students in meeting the growing need for human resource (HR) professionals and have the ability to build on their education. 

The Human Resource Management program is designed for the working professional wishing to enter the human resource field, professionals wanting to enhance their HR knowledge, HR professionals wishing to advance in their field, certified HR professionals seeking re-certification hours, and managers wanting to get a better understanding of HR.

Human Resource Management AAS-T degree graduates will:

  • be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field
  • explain HR’s role in developing human capital and its impact on an organization’s success
  • discuss how HR can impact diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics in organizations
  • develop an HR topic learning and development session
  • analyze the implications of employment case laws
  • identify successful strategies for developing a diverse talent pool of qualified candidates
  • leverage technology to support human resource (HR) activities
  • apply metrics and analytical strategies that achieve bottom-line business results
  • explain the impact HR has on talent in an organization
  • meet Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science with a lab, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes

Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

Recommended Course Sequence

The courses listed below are a suggested sequence; as long as prerequisites are met, courses may be taken in a different order.

General Education Requirements - 45 credits


Electives - 13-14 credits


If you are not proficient in MS Office, it is recommended you use those courses for your electives. If you can attend one of the conferences, this will assist with career development (you can attend multiple years). Internships can be an excellent career development and resume builder (you can do multiple internships. Classes cannot count twice, and the total credits may not be reduced.

  • any BAS course
  • any ACCT/ACCT& course
  • any BTE course
  • any ECON/ECON& course
  • any TLM course
  • ENGL& 235 Technical Writing  

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement


Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101D meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).
