Program Admission Dates: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer
Medical Billing and Coding Professional certificate will prepare students with the necessary skills and knowledge to obtain an entry-level position in medical insurance coding and office administration within a variety of healthcare settings.
Medical Billing and Coding Professional certificate graduates will:
- apply medicolegal principles when working with protected health information (PHI)
- accurately code diagnoses and procedures for the medical office
- accurately prepare insurance billing forms
- competently use software commonly used in the medical practice
- be prepared to obtain an entry-level position in their field
- demonstrate critical thinking, teamwork, communication, intercultural appreciation, and information literacy skills
Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’sresponsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

General Education Requirements - 15 Credits
Diversity and Social Justice Requirement
Within the certificate requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101D meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).
