ENGL 099 Intro to Essay Writing5 credits This course presents grammar and paragraph review and instruction in writing thesis-driven essays. Students will write a minimum of 3500 words of finished composition during the quarter.
Prerequisites: ENGL 093 (or placement into ENGL 099)
Quarters Offered: All
Global Outcomes: This course teaches to the global outcome of Communication.
Student Outcomes/Competencies: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Speak, comprehend, read and write English fluently at a college level
- Apply the writing process to create finished compositions
- Exercise basic critical thinking skills to analyze and express ideas in writing
- Demonstrate awareness of audience in written compositions
- Develop well-structured paragraphs with very few grammar mistakes
- Recognize and write thesis-driven essays including introductions, developments and conclusions
- Use basic editing skills to revise writing
