ADHS 66 U.S. History since 18772.5 credits
This course satisfies the Washington State high school graduation requirement for United States History. Students will explore and analyze recurring themes and specific events to gain an understanding of the connections among topics over time. Themes addressed include war and peace, civil rights, political leadership, propaganda and the media, and popular culture.
This course focuses on the historical precedents to current issues, aiming to make both the precedents and the issues relevant to your decision-making in the immediate future. In its current iteration, some of the relevant questions include whether to join the military or a labor union (or neither or one and then the other). We also consider how to think about contemporary issues surrounding race and identity, as well as how to think about science and its role in our lives.
Prerequisites: Enrollment in LWTA
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze charts and graphs in historical context to derive denoted and implied meanings
- Evaluate the validity, reliability, and credibility of sources when researching an issue or event
- Evaluate how historical events and developments were shaped by unique circumstances of time and place as well as broader historical contexts
- Evaluate how individuals and movements have shaped contemporary world issues
