BH 226 SUD Law, Ethics, and Professional Responsibilities

This course is an introduction to the foundations and content of ethical codes and the process of ethical decision-making. It includes information about federal and state laws and mandates governing substance use disorder (SUD) services and professionals. This course addresses the educational content specified in WAC 246-811-030 (3R, S, and W).

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Demonstrate comprehension of the difference between ethics and the law
Describe multidisciplinary perspectives that influence professional standards and legal mandates
Articulate the importance of consultation, supervision, and monitoring one’s biases and perspectives
Integrate information from the NAADAC Code of Ethics into professional responsibilities and scope of practice
Demonstrate awareness and respect for the importance of cultural humility and the ethical codes that address related values
