HRM 390 Successful People Management Principles

5 credits
This course will focus on techniques and behavioral traits to improve supervisors, managers, and leaders in the workplace. Students will learn about performance management programs and how they relate to organizational strategies and goals. Students will also learn how to enhance performance with creative thinking, employee recognition, and techniques in feedback, coaching, and succession planning.

Prerequisites: Admission to a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Discuss the major societal trends in performance management
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of evaluation process and criteria
  • Identify the purpose, characteristics, methods, and communication techniques, including performance bias of an effective performance management program
  • Create a clear line between performance management and organizational goals
  • Identify and develop best practices for coaching and feedback for successful supervisors, managers, and leaders
  • Analyze employee accountability and evaluate approaches for performance improvement and enhancement
