FSE 102 Occupational Safety Code and Federal Trade Commission

5 credits

An overview and explanation of the OSHA (Occupational and Health Safety Administration) rules and standards with emphasis on bloodborne pathogens, ergonomics, required signage, and cleaning practices in a funeral home. Students will also study the requirements of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Funeral Rule.

Prerequisites: ENGL 93 (or placement into ENGL 99) and MATH 87 (or placement into MATH 98)

Corequisites: FSE 100 and FSE 104

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Recognize the importance of regulatory compliance for personal and public health as it relates to funeral service operations
Demonstrate and explain safe work practices
Explain Hazard Communication Standard
Describe the purpose of the FTC Funeral Rule
Explain price disclosures and how to comply with the Funeral Rule
