LASR 230 Capstone Project5 credits The capstone project is a final check of competency in the laser and optical technology program. This course is to be taken in the final quarter of a degree program. Exact details are negotiated between the instructor and students to find the best fit for the students’ individual/group area of interest within the field. This course will also provide the opportunity for students to collaborate with the other college STEM departments to build relevant hands-on projects that will enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Prerequisites: LASR 201
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Describe the purpose of optics and photonics and how it is related to applied research
- Identify the various components and methods of the research design process
- Complete a literature review on the topic of their proposed research
- Prepare a plan for collecting and analyzing data to support their proposal
- Complete an assigned project from concept to final completion
- Demonstrate for peers and undergo a peer review of materials, processes, and methodology
- Employ industry-acceptable documentation techniques.
- Communicate information to peers at all levels within the industry
- Design, implement, and evaluate strategies to promote professional development
- Apply research ethics
