NURS 135 Mental Health Nursing

3 credits
Introduces concepts relating to emotional, mental, and behavioral disturbances and disorders of clients. Emphasizes basic concepts including legal and ethical principles related to mental health and illness, and the role and responsibilities of the nurse in the chronic and acute mental health care setting.

Prerequisites: NURS 121  and NURS 122  

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Integrate evidence-based knowledge to make sound clinical judgements reflective of safe practice standards.
  • Apply the concepts of leadership, management, quality improvement, and patient safety in the delivery of patient care
  • Communicate effectively and accurately through verbal, written, and electronic mediums.
