HORT 111 Botany5 credits This course introduces how plants grow, how they are structured internally, and how their parts function. Emphasis is placed on the application of plant growth principles to our environment and plant diversity.
Prerequisites: ABED 46 (or equivalent placement score for ENGL 93 or higher) and ABED 40 (or equivalent placement score for MATH 87 or higher)
Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- List the components of a cell and its role
- Describe how plant tissues and systems function
- Apply the processes of photosynthesis and respiration
- Chart the movement of water and nutrients throughout the plant
- Identify above and below ground plant anatomy
- Analyze plant responses to environmental stimuli
Program Outcomes This course teaches to the following program outcomes:
- be prepared for Washington State Nursery and Landscape Association Certified Professional Horticulturists exams
- demonstrate professional knowledge of horticultural skills
