DHYG 438 Senior Capstone and Portfolio

This course is a culmination of major learning themes and demonstration of program competencies through the student’s capstone project and electronic portfolio. This course provides skill building in the critical areas of leadership development essential for healthcare.

Prerequisites: DHYG 422, DHYG 423, DHYG 425, and DHYG 426

Corequisites: DHYG 432, DHYG 433, DHYG 434, and DHYG 435

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Investigate the characteristics of a dental hygiene leader
Propose a learning contract for the evaluation of their capstone project
Complete the capstone project using the evaluation step of the ADPIE process to showcase disiplinary knowledge, ethics, professionalism, methods, and skill
Produce a written summary and self-analysis of the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of the capstone project
Evaluate the capstone project and electronic portfolio for demonstration of program competency
Evaluate goals related to their professional development plan

This course teaches to the following program outcomes:

provide quality, evidence-based, safe, and ethical entry level patient care, and patients/clients will be satisfied with the services rendered
demonstrate the skills necessary to stay current in the profession with a rigorous emphasis on the study of current research, life-long learning, and career development as a dental hygienist
be prepared to successfully complete all licensing exams required to practice in Washington State and obtain an entry-level position as a dental hygienist
