Associate in Construction Management, Direct Transfer Agreement/Major Related Program (DTA/MRP)

Program Admission Dates: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer

The Associate in Construction Management DTA/MRP degree is a pathway for students planning transfer to CWU, UW, and WSU for a major in Construction Management (American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) accredited programs http://www.acce-hq.org/index.htm). It also provides information for transfer to EWU’s BS in Technology, Construction Management.

Construction Management DTA/MRP students should contact their potential transfer institution(s) early in their program regarding:

  • The specific course choices in each area of the Statewide agreement where options are listed (humanities, social science)
  • Admission requirements for both the insitution(s) and the major, including overall minimum GPA, a higher GPA in a selected subset of courses, or a specific minimum grade in one or more courses
    • Construction management is a compettive degree program and may require a higher GPA overall or a higher GPA in specific courses
    • Meeting the minimum requirements of the degree does not guarantee admission to the transfer insitution(s) and the major

Construction Management DTA/MRP graduates will:

  • use the scientific method to analyze natural phenomena and acquire skills to evaluate authenticity of data/information relative to the natural world
  • apply mathematical knowledge through calculus
  • define the basic concepts of Introductory Mechanical Physics
  • describe fundamentals of engineering graphics including: terminology, media, line conventions, scaling, sketching, geometric construction, isometric drawing, and basic orthographic projection, as defined in ASME and AIA standards
  • demonstrate knowledge of basic AutoCAD or Solid Works for Engineering skills
  • demonstrate communication, intercultural appreciation, teamwork, information literacy, and critical thinking
  • meet Social Science, Humanities, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning distribution area outcomes

Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

The courses listed below are a suggested sequence; as long as prerequisites are met, courses may be taken in a different order.

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement


Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101D meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).

The requirements of the Construction Management DTA/MRP are met by the degree plan as listed above. The following information lists the requirements by subject area and includes advising notes and institution-specific requirements. Students should review this information carefully in order to plan their degree pathway in alignment with their transfer institution(s).

A specific course may be credited to no more than one distribution or skill area requirement.

Communication Skills: 10 credits

  • 5 credits English Composition I (ENGL& 101)
  • 5 credits Technical Writing (ENGL& 235) or English Composition II (ENGL& 102)
  • Advising Note: Central Washington University (CWU) requires ENGL& 102 for program acceptance.

Quantitative/Symbolic Reasoning Skills: 5 credits

  • 5 credits Calculus I (MATH& 151) or higher
  • Calculus is required for preparation for junior level course work at UW, WSU, and CWU. Students with only pre-calculus will not have met the requirements for preparation to UW, WSU, and CWU.
  • Students seeking admission only to EWU may complete the Construction Management DTA/MRP with pre-calculus.

Humanities: 15 credits 

  • 5 credits Public Speaking (CMST& 220)
  • 10 credits of other humanities classes with at least one class in a field other than speech
  • No more than five credits in world language or ASL may apply to the Humanities requirement.
  • No more than five credits in performance/skills courses.

Social Sciences: 15 credits

  • 5 credits Business Law (BUS& 201)
  • 5 credits Economics (ECON& 201 or ECON& 202)
  • 5 additional credits in social sciences
  • Advising Note: WSU requires both ECON& 201 and ECON& 202.

Natural Sciences: 15-30 credits

  • 5 credits Geology (GEOL& 101)
  • 5 credits General or Engineering Physics I with Lab (PHYS& 221 or PHYS& 121/131)
  • 5-20 additional credits based on the transfer institution(s) requirements listed below.
    • UW Seattle
      • 5 credits Statistics (MATH& 146)
      • 5 credits General or Engineering Physics II with Lab (PHYS& 222 or PHYS& 122/132)
      • 10 additional credits in natural sciences or math
    • WSU
      • 5 credits Calculus II (MATH& 152)
      • 5 credits General or Engineering Physics II with Lab (PHYS& 222 or PHYS& 122/132)
    • CWU
      • 5 credits Calculus II (MATH& 152)

Construction Management Course Work: 13-18 credits

  • 10 credits Financial Accounting (ACCT& 201 and ACCT& 202)
  • 3-8 additional credits based on the transfer institution(s) requirements listed below.
    • UW Seattle
      • 5 credits of Managerial Accounting (ACCT& 203)
      • 3 credits of Architectural CAD or Engineering Graphics, including 3D graphics such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks (ENGR& 114)
    • WSU, CWU, and EWU
      • 3 credits of Architectural CAD or Engineering Graphics (ENGR& 114) recommended, or
      • 3 credits from the recommended electives list based on transfer institution(s)

Elective Courses: No more than 20 credits based on transfer institution(s) as listed in the table below

Advising Note: CWU and UW require 3 credits of Introduction to Construction Management, which can be take fall quarter of the junior year.

Transfer Credits Required by Receiving Institutions

The following requirements, included by skill and distribution area above and summarized by transfer institution below, should inform course choices.

UW: Requires MATH& 146 and PHYS& 222. Requires three quarter credits of architectural CAD or engineering graphics (a course that includes 3-D graphics such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

WSU: Requires PHYS& 222. Recommends three quarter credits of architectural CAD or engineering graphics.

CWU: Requires ENGL& 102 for program acceptance. Requires CHEM& 161. Recommends three quarter credits of architectural CAD or engineering graphics.

EWU: Requires CHEM& 161. Recommends three quarter credits of architectural CAD or engineering graphics.
