In support of the overall mission, vision, values, and goals of the Lake Washington Institute of Technology, this nursing program seeks to:

  • Provide a safe, inclusive, student-centered learning environment where students are provided the opportunity to develop the skill and knowledge necessary to provide ethical, safe, and compassionate patient-centered nursing care within a modern diverse healthcare system.

Vision
To provide a supportive and innovative educational experience designed to inspire both student and educator alike, based on a commitment to positively contribute to the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Values
The core values of the Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s Nursing Program encompass the concepts, competencies, and values that are reflected in our program’s framework, which includes the incorporation of the ethical standards associated with professional nursing practice.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)
The program has learning outcomes. The outcomes are the competencies each graduate has integrated into their practice. Each course teaches to Program Learning Outcomes. Nursing AAS-T degree graduates (RN) will:

  • EPSLO 1: Integrate evidence-based knowledge to make sound clinical judgements reflective of safe practice standards.
  • EPSLO 2: Apply the concepts of leadership, management, quality improvement, and patient safety in the delivery of patient care
  • EPSLO 3: Communicate effectively and accurately through verbal, written, and electronic mediums.
  • EPSLO 4: Plan and provide safe, inclusive, equitable, effective, and financially responsible nursing care through the appropriate utilization of available resources.
  • EPSLO 5: Incorporate the concepts and competencies reflected in the LWTech

Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

Minimum admission requirements: Completion of application for admission to the nursing program, minimum GPA 3.0, Entrance Test results, and 2 professional recommendations. Must have required background check and immunizations. Must be 18 years of age or older due to clinical agency requirements.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology does not offer every course each quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

General Education Requirements - 15 Credits


All General Education courses are required to be completed prior to the sixth term of the Associate Degree Nursing program. It is recommended they be completed prior to starting the Nursing program.

NOTE: Beginning in Spring 2022, all general education requirements must be completed prior to admission to the Nursing program.

Diversity and Social Justice Requirement


Within the degree requirements, students must complete a 3-5 credit course that meets the college’s Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) requirement. DSJ courses are designated in the college schedule and are designed to meet other general education or technical requirements simultaneous to meeting the DSJ requirement (e.g., ENGL& 101D meets both the ENGL& 101 requirement and the DSJ requirement).
